i love the outfit this new look employee is wearing. the hat, shoes and shorts all make a statement, but the neutral/pastel shades keep it understated and simple. genius! now, if only the irish climate allowed for more shorts & tshirt days…

get the look:

belted cream trilby £16.99, river island

blush strappy vest top £5.00, dorothy perkins

belted twill shorts £16.99, new look

suede wedges £70.00, topshop
this giant silver tote caught my eye this weekend, and is a simple, practical way to add some sparkle to any day outfit. looks like it would be great for travelling.

get the look:

watery faux leather oversized tote
€65.00, american apparel

daisy bag by orelia, in bronze
£120.00, topshop
there’s this trend amongst a certain subset of young irish females (sometimes known collectively as knackers) of wearing colourful pyjama bottoms out and about. now don’t get me wrong, i’ll sometimes nip out to the shop to buy some milk in a pair of joggers, but if i were to actually go and meet my friends for the day, i don’t think i’d choose to sport bright pink checkered PJs:

i’m so curious as to where this trend originated from. is it just laziness? do they just leave the house without getting properly dressed? i certainly hope not. do they actually think they look cool? is it a rebellion against conformity? who knows. i’m always so tempted to stop these girls and actually ask them some serious questions about why they like wearing these kinds of outfits. but, you see, for those not living in ireland, you need to know that the kind of girls that dress like this are usually also very loud, very obnoxious, and quite likely to punch inquisitive strangers in the face. hence why i shan’t be asking them anything.
i’m not sure either what the deal is with the girl in the middle; tan wide-leg trousers, a pink blazer and red hi-tops is certainly an interesting combination. if anything, i give her 10/10 for originality.

monday: after moving all of my stuff out yesterday, i’m having a lazy day.
tshirt: catch
cardigan: paris
jeans: gap
flats: schuh

tuesday: you wouldn’t think it were june with this outfit, but as always the dublin climate likes to surprise us. i was pleased by how this outfit turned out; the dress is actually floor-length but i hitched it up and cinched it in with the belt, and it actually worked well and didn’t look like it wasn’t naturally that length. and as a finishing touch, a little pop of colour on the lips.
batwing top: a wear
maxi dress: h&m
belt: a wear?
boots: barratts

wednesday: i realised i hadn’t actually worn this dress on its own yet. i liked this outfit, although it might have been a little too early for completely bare legs!

thursday: as you can see, i’m in a new location. i’m styaing with a friend for 2 weeks before moving into my actual new place which isn’t ready yet. anyway, back to the clothes… i’m surprised i didn’t wear this dress until now, since i really love it. i bought it in the sales about 4 years ago and it’s one of the few pieces of clothing i’ve kept from paris. it’s really comfortable and it has pockets!!!
tshirt: catch
dress: naf naf
belt: vintage
flats: schuh

friday: i kind of regret putting this dress in my selection for the challenge, since it’s not really that versatile given its colour scheme. i also regret putting these cropped jeans in; i don’t know why i thought i’d be able to wear them in may. however today was a beautiful day (26°!) and so i got to wear both these things, as well as my amazingly comfortable ecco sandals! i also tried wearing a scarf in my hair, which usually doesn’t work out, but i really like the pop of colour. black and gold = winner.
scarf: goodwill thrift store
dress: urban outfitters
cropped jeans: flea market in paris
sandals: ecco

saturday: it’s a toofer! today was a lovely day, so i didn’t feel the need to cover up with layers. i was just lounging around the house, doing personal admin stuff, so that’s why i’m wearing no shoes in the first picture. i got inspired by a photo i saw in a magazine of a model wearing a tshirt tucked into her jeans. i haven’t worn anything tucked in since i was in school, and so it was interesting to try that look again. feels very american apparel.
as for the second outfit, i was going round to a friend’s house for dinner in the evening, by which time it was considerably cooler, and so needed to cover up with tights and a cardigan, which i wore backwards for a different twist.
strappy top: h&m
waistcoat: pimkie
necklace: no idea
shorts: forever 21
belt: penneys
cardigan (worn backwards): paris
black flats: ecco

sunday: i decided that since it was fairly nice out (although a little overcast), i’d squeeze in another chance to wear these jeans, and completed the look with some sailor stripes and a pop of colour (i use that phrase way too much).
top: forever 21
belt: vintage
cropped jeans: paris flea market
black flats: ecco

monday: last day of the challenge! not sure what the weather’s going to be like today, but it looks optimistic. i love the colour and feel of this cardigan so it’s a shame i didn’t wear it more during the challenge.
black strappy top: h&m
cardigan: h&m
skirt: zara
belt: a wear?
black flats: ecco
so that’s it! technically there i only did 28 days since one day was game day and another i was working from home in my pyjamas, but then i did have one day with two outfits, so that brings me back up to 29 outfits, which is close enough for me.
overall, i found this experiment challenging, inspiring, and also frustrating! it definitely made me look at some of my clothes in a new light, and others with confusion (“why did i buy this again?!”)
i often say that i’m jealous of men who, for the mostpart, tend not to have too many clothes, or very many decisions to make when getting dressed (shirt/thsirt? jeans/slacks? black shoes/brown shoes?), and this is still true to a certain extent. howver, i’m really looking forward to getting the rest of my clothes back, and am also looking forward to using what i’ve learnt this month to make my outfits more interesting, verstaile, and unique.
tonight i’ve been going through my old deviantart account at some of the photography and graphic design i did between 2005 and 2007. i just found this and thought it was quite funny:

by the way, i didn’t have red hair at the time; it’s all photoshop. although i did have red hair at one point, when i was about 16. maybe it’s time to try it again?

monday: after my foray into colour last week, i decided to continue the theme on into today’s outfit.
earrings: a gift from a family friend
cardigan: paris
top: etam (france)
red belt: vintage (used to belong to my mum)
jeans: gap
black flats: ecco

tuesday: even though this i felt kind of frumpy wearing a skirt over a dress, but i liked the contrast of the black and the grey.
earrings: a wear?
dress: closet @ a wear
skirt: h&m
belt: vintage (used to belong to my mum)
boots: barratts

wednesday: when i started this challenge, i thought i’d wear this dress more often, but so far i’ve only worn it once.
earrings: flea market in paris (handmade from mauritania)
dress: h&m
belt: new look
cardigan: h&m
black flats: ecco

thursday: in school, i used to wear miniskirts and converse all the time, so this was a bit of blast from the past.
top: forever 21
cardigan: paris
denim skirt: dunnes stores
sneakers: converse

friday: in one of my outfits last week, i wore dark eye make up, and i remembered how much i liked it, so i think i’ll do it more. in this look i’m trying to work the glam rock thing. when i bought this top, i imagined it looking great with a long silver chain, but i realised i didn’t have any, so i took a necklace i have, wore it backwards, and hung some funky earrings from the loop. it worked great!
top: dropinn thrift store
waistcoat: pimkie
jeans: gap
necklace: modified
black flats: ecco

saturday: i’m moving house at the moment, so saturday was all about packing, cleaning and other general chores. when i’m i cleaning mode, i like to wear shorts and comfortable tops, so this outfit was perfect.
denim tunic: old navy
shorts: forever 21
sneakers: converse

sunday: moving day! lots of lifting and changing location, so casual is essential.
tshirt (worn underneath): h&m
striped tshirt: dropinn thrift store
jeans: gap
sneakers: converse
